Clan Lamont Societies in Other Countries
Scotland: The Clan Lamont SocietyThe Clan Lamont Society was organized in Glasgow, on September 18, 1895. It is interesting to note that two of the founding Vice Presidents were Col. Daniel Scott Lamont, USA, and Mrs. Margaret Lamont Campbell. In 1906, the Society erected the Lamont Memorial in Dunoon, honoring the memory of the 1646 massacre at Dunoon. In 1930, work was begun on the "The Lamont Clan, 1235-1935", the outstanding Clan history book based on the papers of Sir Norman Lamont of Knockdow. Four fifths of the cost of publication was underwritten by Harry A. Black of Texas, and Thomas W. Lamont of New York. In 1987, the society obtained ownership of "The Manse" at Inverchaolain. This is of special interest, as not only are special Clan Lamont items for sale there, but a limited amount of lodging is also available.
